Types of Interpretation and Translation Services  

1. Telephone Interpretation Service (TELIS)

TELIS

  • Via the telephone system which facilitates 3-way voice conference enabling provision of over-the-phone interpretation.
  • TELIS can be initiated by ethnic minorities and the public service providers.
  • Service users can get immediate interpretation support by calling our TELIS hotlines during operation hours. TELIS Appointment is recommended for lengthy telephone interpretation, such as intake assessments and making applications that involves form-fillings, etc. Appointment should be made at least 3 working days in advance via TELIS hotlines, by fax or email.
  • Operation hours for TELIS are from Monday to Sunday 8am to 10pm except public holidays.
  • Free of charge

2. On-site (Escort) Interpretation Service (EIS)

EIS

  • Face-to-face interpretation when our interpreters present physically in the same place as the public service providers and the EM residents
  • EIS is provided UPON REQUEST BY PUBLIC SERVICE PROVIDERS.
  • Public service providers can make appointment via fax (+852 3106 0455)
    or email (tis-cheer@hkcs.org) at least 3 working days in advance.
  • Download EIS Request Form
  • EIS is available from Monday to Friday between 10am-6pm, Saturday from 10am-2pm, except public holidays.
  • Service charges for public service providers from Government Departments and NGOs are as follows:
    • @$60/EIS during operation hour
    • @$100/EIS out of operation hour

3. Simultaneous Interpretation Service (SIS)

SIS

  • Face-to-face interpretation when our interpreters present physically in the same place as the public service providers and the EM residents. It gives support to public providers on transmitting essential information to respective groups of EM residents in workshops and seminars.
  • SIS is provided UPON REQUEST BY PUBLIC SERVICE PROVIDERS
  • Public service providers can send through their request via fax (+852 3106 0455)
    or email (tis-cheer@hkcs.org) at least 14 working days in advance.
  • Download SIS Request Form
  • SIS is available from Monday to Friday between 10am-6pm, Saturday from 10am-2pm except public holidays.
  • Service charges for public service providers from Government Departments and NGOs are as follows:
    • @$150/hour during operation hour

4. Translation Service (TS) 

TS

  • Providing translation of written communication from English into the respective EM languages
  • TS is provided UPON REQUEST BY PUBLIC SERVICE PROVIDERS and;
  • For documents where NO SPECIALIZED/PROFESSIONAL TERMINOLOGY involved.
  • Public service providers can send through their request via fax (+852 3106 0455)
    or email (tis-cheer@hkcs.org) at least 14 working days in advance.
  • Download TS/Proof-reading Service Request Form
    (Translation for one page of A4 size article (approximately 200 English words), from English to one of the seven respective language/dialects, would take around 14 working days)
  • Service charges for public service providers from Government Departments and NGOs are as follows:
    @$1.5 per One English word to One respective language (Minimum charge is $100)

Proof-reading Service (PS)

  • Providing proof-reading service on the respective EM languages
  • PS is provided UPON REQUEST BY PUBLIC SERVICE PROVIDERS and;
  • For documents where NO SPECIALIZED/PROFESSIONAL TERMINOLOGY involved.
  • Public service providers can send through their request via fax (+852 3106 0455)
    or email (tis-cheer@hkcs.org) at least 14 working days in advance.
  • Download TS/ Proof-reading Service Request Form
  • Service charges for public service providers from Government Departments and NGOs are as follows:
    @$0.5 per One ethnic minority word to English (Minimum charge is $100)

5. On-sight Interpretation Services (OSIS)

OSIS

  • Provision of verbal explanation on the meaning of documents from English to the seven respective languages/ dialects.
  • Ethnic minorities can bring along with the document and visit our centre during CHEER drop-in hours.
  • CHEER drop-in opens from Monday to Saturday between 9am to 9pm, Sunday from 9am to 5pm, except public holidays.
