I have used CHEER’s interpretation service for my case. Although my client can speak a little bit Cantonese, interpretation is needed as it helped to make sure her fully receives my message while we use a language that she can understand. The interpretation service enabled me to precisely and accurately explain the social welfare policy to my client. I appreciate the interpretation service provided by CHEER in which the interpreter was professional and responsible.

I started to take CHEER’s interpretation service just last year and I take the services whenever the needs arise. I am old and I cannot speak either English or Cantonese, so that it was very difficult for me and my family to get the services in community. One of the reasons that I am taking this service is language barrier, so once I start to take this service I understood a lot of welfare which is providing to the needy people in the community, for example I did not know much about housing policy and did not know what kind of criteria that we need to fulfill when applying for public house.

After using the interpretation services from CHEER, I am more comfortable, if there is not such service, I think it is very difficult for EM people, those who cannot speak English and Chinese, and there will be many difficulties in the community due to the language barrier. Now at least we know what we can get.
